Instead run make and execute it from the current directory.
This will keep you from having files where you don't want them.

Type lr -h and lrstats -h to see usage information.

The myout.test file is a 1/12th scale of the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data provided by The GEBCO_08 Grid.
Credit for this data goes to the British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC), National Environment Research Council (NERC), 
U.S. Department of the Interior U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center,
